A frame for Mario Carrieri.

Shadow is the aluminum frame that I designed for the photos of Mario Carrieri at the exhibition “Around Photography” by the Association Jacqueline Vodoz & Bruno Danese in 1999. When I spoke with Mario – an icon of italian photography – he asked me not to put any of my design in front of his photos and avoid colors. I was impressed when I first saw Mario’s black and white prints “Natura morta con drappo” and I decided to augment their dramatic effect by adding them an inclined solid projection behind, unbalancing the perspective of the observer. The exhibit curators Italo Lupi and Marco Romanelli didn’t understood my proposal at first sight but later they appreciated the overall result and “our pieces” were hanging together in the main saloon of the exhibition space – a beautiful milanese apartment – next to Ettore Sottsass & Johanna Grawunder, Paolo Rizzatto & Gabriele Basilico.
